Cambodia and Gang Rape

Gang rape and sexual assault are plastered all over the news (hell, even I’m writing about it two days in a row). But where these news articles give an upfront, surface recognition of specific instances, Aela Callan of Al Jazeera digs a bit deeper.

Callan traveled to Cambodia to discuss why there is a higher instance of gang rape there than anywhere else in Asia. Talking to self proclaimed rapists, scholars, and researchers, Callan finds that gang rape may be the result of a combination of young male bravado, illegal prostitution, and cultural norms surrounding virginity and group sex. Both insightful as well as horrifying, Callan’s 25-minute video should be seen.
