Monday seems like a good day to overwhelm you every week. So! Here is my weekly list of all the things I found interesting but didn’t find time to write about. Go! Explore! Get off my porch!
Here is Denise Frohman’s award winning slam poetry called ‘Dear Straight People: Who do you think you are?’. I thought it was pretty great.
Here’s a film called Girl Rising that follows the stories of 9 girls from 9 different countries. The stories are written by 9 ‘celebrated writers’ and narrated by 9 different actresses including Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Alicia Keys, Selma Hayek, and Anne Hathaway. The film is being released in the States exclusively at Regal Theaters between April 19-25.
This article talks about ORGASMS! It describes the difference between men and women and the rate of ‘completion’ during various different types of sexual encounters. Mostly, women are getting screwed…but not getting orgasms. Further, it shows that many women (especially younger women) believe that their duty during sexual intercourse is to provide the man with an orgasm and feel that they cannot ask for one in return. Interesting read…but it also makes me mourn all of the lost orgasms of women everywhere.
Since we’re talking about sex, let’s talk about anal sexing your man (sorry, I really can’t be gender/sex neutral on this one…you’ll see why). Jezebel wrote this article a while ago about engaging in anal sex (during heterosexual sexual encounters) to ‘make your boyfriend more thoughtful’. They got the idea from Charlie Glickman and Aislinn Emirzian, who suggests that ‘pegging’ can reverse the traditional gender roles during sex (ie women being the ‘passive’ partner while men are the ‘active’ partner) and may allow couples to experience life in their partner’s shoes and suggests ‘that straight “men who get into anal penetration are among the most secure in their masculinity: because they’ve examined themselves, faced their fears.”‘
Well I do believe that’s about enough for you for one Monday. But! This picture will hopefully make everything a little bit better.
