“12-Year-Old Girl Kicked Off Football Team Because Boys Had ‘Impure Thoughts’ About Her”

As I and many other writers have addressed, if we’re ever going to combat rape culture and the policing of female sexuality, we have to teach young men and women that they are responsible for their own sexual urges and desires. It is NOT up to young women to guard themselves from the ‘rampant’ sexuality of young boys. It is up to parents and school officials to mediate these interaction in a way that promotes education and equality.

Forcing a young girl to quit playing a game she obviously loves because she may ’cause’ boys to have impure thoughts about her if fucking ridiculous. It not only teaches the young boys that she is something to be desired and lusted after (after all, why would the parents/officials take such measures if she weren’t), but also that they are not in control of their own desires, urges, sexuality, or relationships. It teaches the young men that, without external intervention, they cannot treat a young woman with the respect she deserves. It teaches the young woman that there is something inherent in her that deserves to be hidden away, something to be policed and protected, lest she force men into a position where they cannot help but find her a sexual object.

C’mon people!
